I've always loved this view over the enclosed field systems beneath Malham Cove at Shorkley Hill. The sheer number of intersecting walls on the hillside creates a patchwork maze of lines which really emphasizes the surrounding contours. Having tried, unsuccessfully in my own mind to make a decent composition of Shorkley Hill from the roadside, it wasn't until I spotted a small hill while photographing the area above Gordale Scar that I found this much improved viewpoint. Having photographed from this area in differing light, including soft sidelighting, this image continues to be my favourite of the area. The more harsh light and cloud shadows offer more contrast for the dividing lines of the dry stone walls to really stand out.
